Gilali Winery
Gilali Winery was founded in the early 1960s, by the family Papadimitriou, just to the southeast of Mt. Olympus, in the beautiful, mountainous Rapsani. The winery’s first vintage was made with the 2006 harvest and released in 2010. The feedback from the market was very positive and encouraged the continued creation of beautiful wines on the noble Xinomavro varietal.
Nikos Papadimitriou is the winemaker and persona behind Gilali Winery. He has a great passion for the creation of unique wines, that reflect the terroir of the area, the wine's age, and the microclimate, which helps the Rapsani appellation – still largely controlled by the large wineries, many of which often produce more than a million bottles a year – by raising the quality and standard and putting it on the global wine map.
The vines producing grapes for Gilali Winery are organic and biodynamic, and only make enough grapes for the relatively small production in the area of 3.000 bottles of rosé and 3.500 bottles of red wine.
