Kalogris Organic Winery

Kalogris Organic Winery

Established in 1980, Kalogris Organic Winery is a family-owned estate located in the village of Kapsas, within the Mantineia plateau of the Peloponnese region in Greece. The winery specializes in producing organic wines from the indigenous Moschofilero grape, a variety known for its aromatic profile and historical significance in the area.

Location and Terroir
Situated at an elevation of approximately 670 meters, the winery benefits from the cool climate of the Mantineia plateau, which is essential for the cultivation of Moschofilero. The soils are primarily clay and loam, providing a fertile foundation for the vines. The region’s altitude and climate contribute to the unique characteristics of the wines produced here.

Philosophy
Kalogris Organic Winery adheres to organic farming practices, focusing on minimal intervention to allow the natural expression of the terroir. The family employs traditional winemaking techniques, including wild fermentation and the use of indigenous yeasts, to craft wines that reflect the essence of the Mantineia region.

Notable Wines
The winery’s portfolio includes several expressions of the Moschofilero grape:
Mrs. Poulia: This wine represents the first organic natural Moschofilero orange wine, crafted with minimal intervention to showcase the grape’s unique characteristics.
Dialogues: The wine offers a unique expression of the varietal, with its beautiful orange-pink hue and complex aromatics

Sustainability
The winery is committed to sustainable practices, focusing on organic viticulture to produce wines that are both environmentally friendly and expressive of the local terroir.

Uniqueness
Kalogris Organic Winery is distinguished by its dedication to the Moschofilero grape, producing a range of wines that highlight the versatility and aromatic potential of this indigenous variety. The family’s long-standing presence in the region and their commitment to organic practices further enhance the uniqueness of their wines.

Recognition
The winery has been recognized for its commitment to organic viticulture and the production of high-quality Moschofilero wines. It is the first in the Mantineia region to be certified as a visitable winery by the Greek Ministry of Tourism.

We met the Kalogris family during harvest in September 2019 and launched their wines in Spring 2020.
